Threat Modeling Certification Training with Koenig Solutions

Course Overview

What is Threat Modeling?

Threat Modeling by Microsoft is a structured engineering practice designed to identify and mitigate security threats during the software design phase. This methodology enables architects to analyze system designs for vulnerabilities using repeatable frameworks, reducing remediation costs by up to 40 percent compared to post-deployment fixes. By integrating these principles into the development lifecycle, teams build more resilient software. Learn more about this approach at the official Microsoft Threat Modeling certification page. This course empowers developers to proactively expose attack surfaces, ensuring robust security compliance through standardized classification systems like STRIDE.

The building blocks every Threat Modeling solution is made of

Data Stores
Primary repositories for persistent system data, including Microsoft Dataverse. Threat Modeling for Dataverse requires evaluating Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Field-Level Security, and adherence to TLS 1.2+ encryption requirements to mitigate unauthorized access and data tampering.
Integration Points
Interfaces where data traverses trust boundaries, such as Microsoft Dataverse OData API, Azure SQL Connector, Power Platform Custom Connectors, and Dynamics 365 Web API. Threat Modeling must account for Dataverse API rate limits and CORS policies to prevent spoofing, tampering, and denial-of-service.

Got Questions? We've Got Answers.

Everything you need to know about Threat Modeling certification training with Koenig Solutions.

Threat modeling is a structured process to identify, evaluate, and mitigate potential security threats in system design, anchored to a visual representation of the system. Core components include system diagrams, data flows, trust boundaries, assets, threat actors, and mitigations. It uses frameworks like STRIDE, PASTA, and DREAD to systematically uncover design-level vulnerabilities before implementation.
Threat modeling training is designed for security professionals, application and cloud architects, DevSecOps engineers, and developers involved in secure software design. It serves roles from mid-level to senior, requiring 3–7 years of experience in security, software development, or infrastructure. Product security specialists and compliance teams also benefit from mastering threat modeling techniques.
Learners need a foundational understanding of security principles—confidentiality, integrity, and availability—and familiarity with application development concepts. Prior exposure to system architecture, data flows, and trust boundaries is beneficial. No specific certification is required, but experience in cybersecurity or software engineering enhances comprehension of threat modeling frameworks and lab exercises.
The training prepares learners for the Certified Threat Modeling Professional (CTMP) certification, which validates practical skills in threat modeling. The exam covers STRIDE, PASTA, LINDDUN, and attack trees applied to cloud-native systems, APIs, and CI/CD pipelines. Candidates must solve real-world challenges involving threat identification, risk prioritization, and mitigation design.
The CTMP exam consists of 5 hands-on challenges to be completed within 6 hours, followed by a 24-hour window to submit a detailed report. A score of 80% (80 out of 100 points) is required to pass. The certification is valid for life, with no recertification or renewal fees required.
The threat modeling training runs for 40 hours, typically delivered over 5 days in live instructor-led sessions. Koenig offers multiple formats: live online, 1-on-1, classroom, Fly-Me-a-Trainer (onsite), and Flexi (self-paced). All formats include guaranteed-to-run dates, official courseware, and hands-on labs with flexible scheduling options.
